Classes

What follows is only a sample of the kind of classes we offer. Don't see what you're looking for? Contact us and we'll be more than happy to tailor a class to fit your specific needs. In addition to being a great learning opportunity in a one-on-one situation, these classes can also be a fun excuse to invite some friends over and make good food together!

The price of each class includes all ingredients and equipment. Classes are for up to 6 people and are conducted in your kitchen. Use of an oven, range, sink, and basic kitchen equipment is required.

Preserving the Harvest 3 Hours, $150
Jams and Canned foods
Available during the summer months only (July through September) this class is the perfect opportunity to take full advantage of our wonderful local produce. Through this class, you will learn the basics of safe canning without having to buy any bulky equipment or special tools. Depending on what's in season and what your preference is, one class would yield between 8-10, 1-quart jars of canned fruit or vegetables, or approximately 8, 1-pint jars of jam.

Kids in the Kitchen 3 Hours, $150
Choose from any of the sample class options below:

  • Happy Birthday—An all-inclusive cake-making and decorating party for your youngster and friends. Each child will leave with their own self-decorated cake.
  • Quick and easy "no-stove" snacks
  • Eat Your Greens—making vegetables fun!

Market Tour 4 Hours, $200
Conducted on Saturdays only, the first hour of this class will take place at the University Farmer's Market where you will learn about the amazing, local produce grown here in the Northwest. This market tour will give you the chance to meet the farmers and pick out ingredients at their prime. We will then return to your kitchen and create a meal with our market ingredients. (Read my blog, Farmer's Market Forays, for examples of the kinds of produce you'll find at the market.)

Sunday Cooking 4 Hours, $200
Spend a few hours in the kitchen on a Sunday (or any day when you have time) and be rewarded with delicious, healthy food all week long. In this class you will learn the trick to making several different "basics" from scratch, such as your own homemade chicken stock and salad dressing. This class will provide you with two full meals for up to six people.

  • Chicken stock from scratch
  • Roasted butternut squash soup with toasted pepitas
  • Cornmeal scones
  • Green salad with roasted red peppers, Queso Fresco, and homemade dressing
  • Ready-to-roast marinated chicken

Dinner Party 4 Hours, $200
This class is for those who love to entertain but aren't quite sure what to make. Learn how to make a four-course dinner (appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert) and be rewarded for your efforts with a wonderful evening with family and friends.

Beans, Greens, and Grains 3 Hours, $150
My husband always claims that if I were to open up a restaurant it would be called "Beans and Greens" because that is what I love to cook the most. Full of all sorts of good things for you, beans, greens and grains are an essential part of a healthy, well-balanced diet. In this class you will be taught how easy it can be to incorporate more of these healthy ingredients into your diet AND how to make them taste great! This class will provide you with two full meals for your family and the basic ingredients for a third, plus a healthy alternative to the traditional cookie dessert.

  • Harvest grains blend with mushrooms and spinach
  • Sausage and barley soup with black-eyed pea and swiss chard
  • Kale pesto
  • Macadamia nut butter cookies

For the Sweet Tooth 3 Hours, $150
Who needs boxed or canned treats when you can make them from scratch? Learn how simple it can be to make some of your favorite sweets at home, not to mention how delicious they are! Use the basics you learn in this class to treat your family and friends for years to come.

  • Caramel sauce
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Chocolate chip oatmeal cranberry cookies
  • Not-from-a-box brownies

Cake Making 101 3 Hours, $150
Always been curious about how those bakers do it? Now you too can learn how to make and decorate your own cake. In addition to creating a beautiful cake that will be sure to impress your friends and family, learn the basic techniques required for making and decorating any cake from scratch.

  • Chocolate cake layers
